Access to safe, legal abortion is being rolled back all across the United States, as legislatures in numerous states pass laws that make it more difficult to obtain the medical procedure. This spring, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in a crucial case: they'll decide whether the Texas law that could shut down all but a few of the state's abortion clinics is unconstitutional. At the same time that abortion is being stigmatized and restricted in these ways, it's an essential part of basic healthcare: one in three women in the United States will get an abortion at some point in her life.
To help share real stories about the importance of keeping abortion safe, legal, and accessible, today Advocates for Youth is hosting a powerful speakout. From noon to 6pm, people from around the country will be sharing their stories of why abortion rights must be protected. Guests over the next six hours include former state senator Wendy Davis, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, poet Sonya Renee, artist and activist Favianna Rodriguez, and comedian Lizz Winstead.
We're livestreaming the whole event—listen in below.
