Back in October, we were excited to make a longtime dream program a reality when we announced the Bitch Media Fellowships for Writers. And when the applications began streaming in, we were happy to see how many people were just as excited about this program. By November 1st, we'd received more than 2,500 applications, all of them brimming with thoughtful, engaging, and inspiring writing.
Winnowing the number down to four seemed like an impossible task. But today, we're thrilled to announced our writing fellows for 2016. They are:
Maneo Refiloe Mohale, Johannesburg, South Africa
Writing fellow, Global Feminism
Felicia L. Montalvo, London, UK
Writing fellow, Technology
Sarita Santoshini, Assam, India
Writing fellow, Reproductive Rights and Justice
Cate Young, D'Abadie, Trinidad and Tobago
Writing fellow, Pop Culture Criticism
Huge and heartfelt congratulations to our fellows! You'll be learning more about them in the coming months, and we hope that you'll follow their writing via the magazine and website.
We want to thank everyone who applied for the fellowships. The sheer number of qualified people who took the time to put together applications is a testament to the desire for smart, timely, and feminist takes on the issues and culture that informs our lives. And it shows that the investment we're making together, as Bitch's Media's community, is vital and necessary.
