BitchTapes: Asian and Asian American Rock Stars

This BitchTape was originally published on April 14, 2017.

The world’s most populous continent is ridiculously underrepresented in mainstream music. Asia is made up of 48 countries, and is home to 60 percent of the world’s population. Why, then, are artists of Asian heritage routinely left out of music coverage? This week’s mix is a crash course in some of my favorite Asian and Asian American artists. Representation matters.

1. Mitski - “Your Best American Girl”

2. M.I.A. - “Survivor”
