May is Mental Health Awareness Month, an urgent call to end stigma and push for legislation that protects people with mental illnesses. When I was in the throes of Agoraphobia and depression, few things uplifted me as much as music. Music brings people with mental illnesses joy, and also becomes a platform for raising awareness. Musicians, like so many of us, have mental health struggles. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, this BitchTape includes survival music from artists who’ve openly struggled with mental illnesses or are standing in the gap for those of us who need allies.
