They’ve been a band for less than one calendar year, and have only played one live show together, but Glasgow trio Dama Scout already sound like lifelong friends. The music they make is loose and messy, saturated with a sense of fun and confidence that takes some bands years to create. They come by some of that the old-fashioned way: bassist Lucci and drummer Danny grew up together in Glasgow (singer/guitarist Eva only recently met the pair in London). What comes out on tape is anything but old-fashioned, though; Dama Scout is an engine run on unbridled, weirdo enthusiasm, and it’s entirely infectious.
“All In Too” is Dama Scout’s second single, and we have the premiere for the song’s appropriately colorful, irreverent video. Eva describes the song as “energetic, chaotic, funny and a bit dark.” The band were listening to The Beatles, Stereolab, and Deerhoof while writing, though claim that at least some of the doom metal Danny and Lucci like made it into this track. There is definitely a sense of destruction to the video, and a trend toward chaos… though more in the “destroying elaborate gelatinous food displays” sense than the “ripping off a bat’s head onstage” sense.
Dama Scout hasn’t announced plans to release an album yet, but keep an eye on this band. Their brand of bright, scuzzy garage rock might be just the thing to get us through a long, dark winter.
