New Music Monday: Y La Bamba

We feature new music from female-fronted bands every Monday. This week: Y La Bamba has a brand new album!

On Y La Bamba’s new album, Ojos Del Sol, frontwoman Luz Elena Mendoza collaborates with various musicians, vocalists, and a composer to create a beautiful collection of indie folks songs that hit on themes of identity and family. The album revolves around Mendoza’s exploration of her Mexican-American identity, both in her lyrics and in the album’s sound. Mendoza grew up in Oregon and California as the daughter of Mexican immigrants, listening to her family’s melodies and stories told through traditional folk songs with three-part harmonies. These are the sounds that she says are the building blocks Ojos Del Sol, an album which she says represents “a celebration of family and community.”
