Every Monday we feature new music from female-fronted bands. This week, we hear the brand-new synth-laden album from YACHT.
I started listening to YACHT forever ago, when the band was just the very sweet Jona Bechtolt dancing around a laptop. Now, Claire L. Evans is an integral part of the unique band that makes otherworldly, beat-driven pop songs about topics like internet privacy and the war on women. In my experience, their live shows combine performance art with sweaty, sweaty dance moves and lots of neon. YACHT’s new album, out this month from Downtown Records, is called I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler. The title track sums up a lot of my feelings about being alive in the less-than-Jetsons digital age.
“Got my broken heart—I got it sold right back to me—By an algorithmic social entity!”
