• Today is Veterans Day—three veterans' groups are calling on the Obama administration to extend full benefits to LGBT servicemembers who received less-than-honorable discharges because of their orientation or gender identity. [Advocate] 

• Student activism is serious business: The student-led protests over race on college campuses need to be heard, not laughed off. [New Republic]  

• One of the first Black students admitted to University of Missouri, back in 1950, comments on the protests over racist incidents at the school today: “I have to commend them on accomplishing what people this time last year would have considered an impossibility.” [New York Times] 

• After the prime minister of New Zealand accused the opposition parties of “backing rapists” in a bit of political hyperbole, several female members of Parliament took the floor to discuss how they are survivors of sexual assault. [Guardian] 

• How does the incarceration of a parent affect the life of their kids? [The Atlantic] 

• Aziz Ansari was on Stephen Colbert's Late Show and got in a comment about there being “a lot of white guys” on staff. [The Mary Sue]
