That Was One Heck Of A Subscription CampaignHere's What Happened:

We believe that reporting back after a big campaign is the most important part of what it means to be reader supported. Your many contributions all add up to more than just the financial resources we need to do this work—they also provide us with the ability to be accountable to one thing, and one thing only: Our mission.

For 20 years, it has been a privilege to provide and encourage a feminist response to pop culture and mainstream media. Though in many ways, it has also been a pleasure to do this work, Andi Zeisler, our cofounder says it best in her Letter from the HQ in the 20th anniversary issue of Bitch magazine:

I never thought Bitch would make it to 20. To be honest, I kind of hoped we wouldn't—when your mission is to respond to crappy, insulting representations of gender, race, and more, after all, the goal is to put yourself out of business. As some of the contributors to this issue point out, for every step forward in the name of progress, there's been a puddle of fuckery, whether it comes in the form of racist Halloween costumes, or Twitter harassment, or a bunch of antique white guys brandishing antiabortion legislation.

But we're thrilled to still be here, and even more thrilled to be sharing this issue with the people who make our work possible.

So thanks to each of you, and without further adieu, here is the final tally on our February subscription campaign—the first, but not the last!—to provide critical resources to Bitch Media during our 20th anniversary year:

Welcome to 129 new B-Hive members, and major, major love to 81 current B-Hive members who upgraded their memberships! Thanks a million to those 64 readers who made a one-time donation to Bitch Media–we appreciate you! To the 124 readers who decided to give a gift subscription to Bitch magazine, we thank you for supporting Bitch financially with the cost of a gift subscription, and for sharing our work with a new reader who might be looking for a feminist community to call home! Of course, those 311 subscribers who decided to renew during this campaign totally rock our world—you're the best! And finally, welcome, welcome, welcome to the 804 folks out there who decided to subscribe to Bitch magazine for the first time ever! We can't wait to hear what you think of our award-winning quarterly!

In total, 1,513 people contributed in one way or another. In the end, we reached our $35,000 goal and surpassed it by a few thousand dollars! We’re floored by the outpouring of support, enthusiasm, and love from our readers:

Not only did our community pitch in at a record-breaking rate—the last day of this campaign was our biggest online fundraising day of all time—but hundreds of readers also shared thoughts with us when placing an order.

Your comments warmed our hearts, made us smile, and reminded us of why we do this work. As a small token of appreciation, it was the least we could do to compile and publish your comments. We hope you find them as uplifting and centering as we did.

Oh, and your buttons—or Bitch Media crest pin, too!—will be on their way as soon as we can put together this 1,513 piece mailing (which will probably be sometime next week).

We couldn’t think of a better way to kick off our 20th anniversary year!
