When we kicked off 2016, we knew we'd have a lot to celebrate: The inaugural year of our Fellowships for Writers, the launch of Bitch Media cofounder and editorial/creative director Andi Zeisler's new book, We Were Feminists Once, a newly redesigned magazine, and of course, the fact that we'd not only managed to make it to 20 years as a nonprofit, independent, feminist media organization, but that we are also growing in exciting and sustainable ways.
We also knew that our community would be right here with us, every step of the way. But what we didn't know was exactly how amazing things could be.
We are thrilled to report that our May campaign to raise $50,000 in reader support was a huge success—in all, 1,931 folks stepped up to help us surpass our goal by a few thousand dollars! Your support makes us feel like this:
Over the course of our campaign, 780 readers either started new subscriptions to Bitch magazine or decided to renew, and 638 folks made a one-time donation to help us reach our goal! Exactly 513 readers joined the B-Hive this month, and we cannot say this enough: Your sustained support means more to us than two dozen baby pandas lining up to give us hugs every morning for the rest of our lives. Our B-Hive is the reason that Bitch exists, and now you're a part of that. Welcome to the Hive!
Your support, whether it came in the form of a donation, a new membership, or a subscription to Bitch magazine, makes us want to yell celebratory things all day out our second-story windows:
Thank you for making Bitch possible!
If you're one of the 1,931 folks who contributed to our campaign, you can expect your “My Feminism Is Not For Sale” sticker to arrive (and your benefits, if you joined the Hive!) in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, you should sign up for our Weekly Reader, a Saturday morning roundup of the best of Bitch from the week to get your weekend going right! Oh, and if you're already signed up for the Weekly Reader, or you're more of a weekday morning kind of person, sign up to get On Our Radar, a short, snappy weekday roundup of feminist news and analysis delivered directly to your inbox!
Thanks again for being a part of our feminist community!
