Give Me My Sultry Summer from BitchTapes on 8tracks.

I've been here for less than a week, and this Pacific Northwest weather is not quite clicking with my system yet. I wake up in the morning, birds are chirping at my window, the sun is gleaming on my face, and it appears to be beautiful, then I step outside and it's cold. There's a giant grey cloud looming overhead, but it's sunny across the street, and just when you think the weather is going to be fine, it starts to rain? Someone tell me this changes soon. All I'm hearing is that summers here are the best, but I feel like I'm being lied to.

Here are some songs about the summer I want, that I'm not quite getting yet…

1. “Summertime” - Ella Fitzgerald
Ella reels you in slowly, smoothly and sumptuously, until you are literally begging for easy summer living.

2. “Make it Hot” - Mirah
Okay, so maybe this song isn't quite about hot weather, but it might be about getting steamy elsewhere while you're thinking about how much winter sucks.

3. “Honey in the Sun” - Camera Obscura
Is your heart as warm as saxaphones and honey in the sun? I think mine might be.

4. “A Summer Song” - Chad & Jeremy
What summer playlist is complete without this '60s hit? When the rain hits against MY window pane, I think of summer days again, and that's the only thing I think about.

5. “Jogging Gorgeous Summer” - Islands
Summer, and sunshine, and sunsets, and swimming, and long walks, and love. And all of this, over and over again.

6. “After the Moment” - Craft Spells
Am I on the beach yet? Because I should be.

7. “I'm Sorry We Lied” - Blood Orange
I heard it was beautiful out last week. What happened? I accept your apology, summer, but I'd like you to be less rainy and cold. Soon. Please.

8. “Sunlight” - tUnE-yArDs
Merrill Garbus is pretty much the only sunlight in my eyes on this cloudy morning.

9. “Sunshine” - CocoRosie
Tell me this doesn't remind you of the sun peeking through your curtains, tickling your nose as you wake up to the sounds of birdies and bikes whizzing by.

10. “A Sweet Summer's Night on Hammer Hill” - Jens Lekman
I wonder what Swedish summers are like. I imagine they're something like this song, ample with trumpets, fast beating hearts, and a whole lot of dancing. Or something. Also, Jens Lekman is coming out with a new album soon.

11. “Hot” - Tender Forever
I can't even complain about it being hot out because it's just not. I mean, I'm not wishing it was 90 degrees or anything, but it's almost my birthday, and it's not even in the 70s yet. Can someone shoot me a heatwave? Just a quick one.

12. “Hail to Whatever You Found in the Sunlight That Surrounds You” - Rilo Kiley
Jenny Lewis, I'm not finding anything in the sunlight that surrounds me because there is no sunlight surrounding me. What do I do?

13. “Summer Begs” - Sarah Jaffe
Summer begs us to prove we can last just one more season. I can't last if it's going to be cold every single day. Bring on the heat, y'all. I'm ready.

14. “Summertime” - Billie Holiday
I felt it was necessary that I put both versions of this song. It was too hard to choose between two classics. Plus, when you listen to this version, aren't you just imagining yourself on a porch swing with a popsicle, or five popsicles?

Dear Summer, I'm waiting for ya.
