Whether you're leaving town, taking a drive, or just moving the eff ON, here's a mix that will have you covered no matter where you're going! 1. Dionne Warwick - Do You Know the Way to San Jose? Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa! One of American legend Dionne Warwick's funnest tunes! 2. Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out of This Country If you need a breath of fresh air mentally or geographically, here's a fun song to sing along to. 3. Rufus Wainwright - California So it turns out there are a LOT of songs about California. I settled on this one from Rufus Wainwright for this mix for no real good reason besides it's catchy and feels like sunshine. 4. Astrud Gilberto - Take Me to Aruanda This breezy, bi-lingual bossa-nova tune from Brazilian songstress is great for welcoming in warming weather! 5. Karen Dalton - Are You Leaving for the Country? Karen Dalton's ballads have a way of making you feel like leaving and coming home at the same time, and this one is no exception. 6. Nellie McKay - Sentimental Journey Here's Nellie McKay covering the standard made famous by Doris Day. 7. The Boswell Sisters - Shuffle Off to Buffalo I don't meet many people who are as excited about the Boswell Sisters as I am, but I really can't get enough of their key-changing, genius harmonizing. This tune really showcases the talents of this 1920s trio. Plus I think it's about gettin' busy on a train. 8. Au Revoir Simone - Shadows (Jens Lekman Remix) If you're already familiar with “Shadows,” Jens Lekman totally recasts the song with his remix! You…might cry. Watch the original here. 9. Pavement - Box Elder I consider this early tune from Pavement a highly underrated break-up song. Perfect for driving with your elbow (or, you know, middle finger) out the window. 10. The Trash Can Sinatras - Maybe I Should Drive Speaking of driving, here's a song that to me just conjures the open road and new possibilities. 11. Archie Bell & the Drells - My Balloon's Going Up Musically and lyrically, this R&B song from 1969 exudes brighter skies and greener pastures. I dare your frown to NOT turn upside down! 12. The Breeders - Drivin' on 9 Best song ever? (Y/Y) Leave your moving on/going places recommendations in the comments!

Goin' Places songs

I have always been fond of "Time Has Come Today" by the Chambers Brothers. I played that a whole lot when I was driving cross-country years ago. The only problem is that I had a lead foot listening to it and, many times, looked at the speedometer to see I was pushing 100. But it IS a kick-ass song!

I came here because I knew

I came here because I knew that there'd be some bitch tape that matched my mood. I just got out of a long term relationship and while I hope for reconciliation I'm also making myself move the eff on for now.

hey you!!

been there! recently! i'm so glad you came here. it's so hard to make yourself move on! it is a brave thing to do and I wish you all the all the best!

Boswell Sisters

The Boswell Sisters song is actually about visiting Buffalo, NY. But, aside from that omission, it's a great mix tape. Thanks, I love it!
