Last night marked the 70th annual Golden Globes, an awards show known for its snap, crackle, and pop (pop being the sound of champagne corks as the nominees get wasted). If, like me, you tuned in mainly to watch dream team Tina Fey and Amy Poehler put the “broad” in broadcast, you were not disappointed. Their witty one-liners and shout outs to Drunk Glenn Close weren’t the only great parts of the show, though. The nominees for best moment of the night are:
Jodie Foster Comes Out As… Something. No one knows quite what to make of Jodie Foster’s tell-all acceptance speech, where she “came out” as single, referenced her sexuality, and talked about the importance of privacy while sharing details of her private life, but it was as compelling and refreshingly weird as Foster herself.
Bill Clinton Brings Down the House. At one of the most star-studded events of the year, the biggest standing ovation went to former president Bill Rodham Clinton. The best part was when Amy Poehler referred to him as “Hillary Clinton’s husband.”
The Charm of Adele. Say what you will about Daniel Craig as Bond, Adele’s acceptance speech for “Skyfall” was one of the best of the night. She seemed genuinely surprised to win, and like she was having a ball “pissing herself laughing” with her friend Ida, also a new mom.
Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig Watch Movies. I don’t know about you, but I’d pay to see Ferrell and Wiig’s version of Hope Springs, where Meryl Streep is a sassy sheriff and Tommy Lee Jones is NOT amused. Wiig and Ferrell’s bit about watching all of the movies in their categories was a crackup.
Ladies Night. The best part of this year’s Golden Globes was the support of women, by women. From Poehler and Fey’s dynamic duo to Jessica Chastain’s heartfelt thank you to Kathryn Bigelow, and from Lena Dunham’s shoutout to the women who helped her get through middle school to Anne Hathaway’s shoutout to Sally Field, it was great to see women publicly appreciating one other at such a high-profile event, challenging the Hollywood stereotype that all actresses are shallow backstabbers who think only of themselves.
Did you watch last night’s shebang? What were your favorite moments?

Watching Lena Dunham walk to the stage not once, but twice. I fell off my couch laughing. It made up for the disappointment of more Homeland wins. Close got robbed!

I have never cared about watching an awards show as much as I did last night. Tina Fey! Amy Poehler! They were hilarious & absolutely the best hosts to date. I illustrated their portraits & did a little Golden Globe write-up here: http://artsparrow.com/2013/01/inside-the-portrait-studio-amy-poehler-tin... Now I just have to catch-up & watch last night's Season 2 premiere of Girls :)
