I ♥ Sarah Waters

I felt very much out of the lezzie-loop yesterday when I found out that Sarah Waters' second novel, Affinity, has been made into a movie and was the opening night film at Frameline this summer. Now full disclosure: Sarah Waters is one of my celebrity crushes and I think I blew my cover on that fact after running into her in a bathroom at the 2003 Seattle Gay and Lesbian Film Festival where I very excitedly exclaimed to her, "Wow, these hand towels are soft". That embarrassing moment aside, I wondered if maybe there are many of us Sarah Waters fans that don't know about this new movie either? Maybe I am just living under a rock, but in case I am not the only one - here are links to a review of the film and an interview with Sarah Waters on afterellen.com.

After reading those go directly to your local video store to check out Tipping the Velvet, Fingersmith, and Affinity. Then, read te books! Really, I am telling you, goth lesbian, queer, english, drama doesn't get any better than this. And if there is more out there, comment away on who and what it is and where to find it.

Happy movie watching.

I am reading Fingersmith

I am reading Fingersmith right now, actually. Tipping the Velvet is one of my all time favorite books but I have to admit that when I saw the BBC mini-series I thought it was really cheesy and it skipped over so much of the book's build up and details. I know most films are like this... but I would definitely recommend reading the book first!

That said, I really enjoyed (the film) Fingersmith, so maybe watching the movies before reading the book is a good idea...

BBC drama is always so cheesy, but how I do love it!

Hope to see it

I heard about the movie through AfterEllen too. I surely hope it makes its way off the LGBT film circuit and onto the small screen.
