In Other Words Needs Your Help!

In Other Words, a feminist bookstore in Portland, Oregon needs your help.  They are the only feminist non-profit bookstore in the country.  Right there is enough reason for you to dig a little into your wallet and give to this worthy place.  IOW needs to raise $11,000 by the end of December if it is to continue to keep its doors open.

As many people know, independent businesses experience difficulty staying afloat during hard economic times.  Those of us who frequent indie bookstores or spaces that make itself available to the public know that it is much more than "just" a bookstore.  These places are often the heart of social justice, artistic, and music communities who need a space to let their spirits do their magic.  While I have never set foot In Other Words, I have benefitted greatly from feminist bookstores and could not imagine a world without them.  Correction, I don't *want* to imagine a world without the spaces that promote the arts, leadership, health, and knowledge.

This holiday season, set aside as much as you can and give a donation to In Other Words.  These kinds of spaces are much more than just a physical place, they're a symbol of greater values that we desperately need in our communities.
