Here’s what we’re reading today:
• Is it a crime to knowingly expose someone to HIV? A Seattle man is being prosecuted for having unprotected sex with eight people in the years after he found out he was HIV-positive.
• This number is staggering: 60 to 80 percent of migrant women attempting to cross the southern US border say that they are raped at some point along the journey. [Fusion]
• Serena Williams was joyful about her win at the US Open, but some of the media coverage about her has veered into racist territory. [The Frisky]
• This high school freshman’s heartwarming essay about the power of Hermione is perfect. [The Mary Sue]
• Ooo… some deep thoughts on masculinity in Pixar films. [Society Pages]
• This essay is from a couple weeks ago, but I’m just seeing it now: What we’re not going to do is discuss Blue Ivy’s hair any further. [This Week in Blackness]
• Mallory Ortberg perfectly satirizes the “would you treat your daughter that way?” argument that men should be respectful of women. [The Toast]

Has there been much discussion of the new CW show, "Jane the Virgin." (I think that's the title). Teen girl accidentally artificially inseminated by her GYN, and the family response is--Yeh, keep the baby! I guess this shouldn't be too big a surprise after all the right-wing Christian propaganda programming/movies coming out of late. But this "of course a teen pregnancy should be carried to term no matter what" crap has my rage up. I had expected some furor over this upcoming show and its message to its teen and preteen market by now. Has anybody seen or heard any sign of one yet?

Craig Ferguson's replacement: white, male, yawn ...

With the announcement of CBS's "Late Show" host Craig Ferguson's replacement James Corden (WHO?) as "white, male, and unknown to most Americans ..." you gotta' give Kathy Griffin "props" for speaking out on the late-night host gender issue--whether you love her, or are not a fan of hers. She was really, really hoping to replace him. Okay, but I personally thought "The Talk's" Aisha Tyler could have been considered for that spot, also ...

Of course I've been a fan of the Harry Potter series for years. And of course those boys in that math class who said that to her, would have a shock of their lives if they ever found out just how many female mathematicians have existed over the years. Someone should educate them! But then again, you would think that men who use that same argument would have at least taken the time to do some research to see if "ANY" female mathematicians and scientists actually exist; and when they find out just how many there have been throughout history, they would probably crap themselves.....
