on our radar

Here’s what’s on our radar today:

Do we need laws specifically against street harassment? Four smart people debate the idea. [New York Times]

• California is weighing an important prison-reduction law, Prop 47, which would reduce sentencing for tens of thousands of non-violent offenders annually and shift savings to schools, victim services, and mental health and drug treatment. [Colorlines]

• A little history for your Monday: suffragist satire from 1915. [Sociological Images]

• Right-wing bloggers are accusing Lena Dunham of sexually abusing her sister, based on her candid description of her childhood sexuality. [Salon]

• Philadelphia just passed an important hate crime law. [Advocate]

• A women-centric vampire film set in Iran? Yes, please. New movie A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night opens this month and looks great. [Slate]

I was under the impression

I was under the impression that they misquoted her writing. Like said 'pried open' vs 'reached between' and changed her age from 17 to 7 when discussing all to make it more sinister than it perhaps was? I haven't read the book though.

I believe that she was 7 when
