Happy Thursday. Here’s what we’re reading today:
• Following the New York Times’ expose of working conditions in nail salons, New York is sending dozens of inspectors to salons across the state to look into their labor practices. [NPR]
• A new show called Supergirl is starting up on CBS in the fall. The idea is promising, but the network just released the show’s first trailer and it looks “depressingly paint-by-numbers.” [iO9]
• You know the voice of Harry Shearer: He plays Mr. Burns, Flanders, and 20 other characters on The Simpsons. And after 26 years of working on the show, Shearer has decided to retire. [Guardian]
• Here’s an interesting look at trichotillomania, a condition that causes people to pull out their hair. [The Atlantic]
• More people moved during the foreclosure crisis of the past few years than during the Great Migration. Interesting. [Colorlines]
• The group Women of 20s is campaigning to replace ol’ genocidal Andrew Jackson on the $20 with a woman. Harriett Tubman won their online poll of who should replace Jackson—in this video, Jay Smooth talks about why putting Tubman on money would be a complicated honor. [Fusion]
