Star light, star [Susie] Bright!

Susie Bright Medium

Writer, teacher, audio-show host, performer, and all-around badass feminist Susie Bright is speaking next week as a continuing part of the Bitch Feminist Perspectives in Pop Culture lecture series! Bright is one of the first writers/activists referred to as a sex-positive feminist, and since her presentation is titled "The Sexual State of the Union" we're sure she will continue her legacy as one of the "Bright" spots (pun intended) in sex-positive feminist activism.

Wishin' I could be there ...

It was the writings of Susie Bright I stumbled across years' ago that actually turned me onto feminism -- especially after being turned off it by the over-"exposed" anti-pornography activists whose names I'll spare here (some of them might be reading this). The reality is that sex is a part of our lives even if we are partnered or not, celibate, active, or not. Susie tells it like it is. So ... if you've got some spare cash and are in Portland ... you won't waste it on a ticket to see her speak sexual truth to power!

Anti-porn feminists sure are

Anti-porn feminists sure are evil assholes turning back progress for women, and that's why I'm glad that Third Wave Feminism has organized itself explicitly around telling those hags where to shove their "prostitution hurts women" anti-sex hate.

Personally, I believe any friend of Larry Flynt's is a friend of feminism and I'm glad Bitch Magazine knows Hustler is more on the side of women than 'off our backs'.

I appreciate your statement but I think you over-simplify feminism WAY too much. Reducing feminism to right ways and wrong ways of being is, in my opinion, divisive and negates what ever solidarity the abstract and layered community of feminists has.

I am actually confused by the statement, “Anti-porn feminists sure are evil assholes turning back progress for women,” as it shows a lack of critical analysis and willful ignorance with regard to context.

Women exist in layers. We all have DIFFERENT and valuable experiences that create the foundations from which we stretch outward with opinion. I find your comment obnoxious, rather than offensive.

Your statement sounds an awful lot like Prez Bush – “with us or against us.” Nothing is that simple and to take the stance that it is, is harmful to social change and progress.

I am just as certain that it

I am just as certain that it will continue its heritage as one of "Bright" spot (pun intended) in the sex-positive feminist activity.
