Two Comedians Spoof Bizarre Lifetime Show “Girlfriend Intervention.”

a still from girlfriend intervention shows four fashionable black women sitting on a sofa

I’m not sure what to make of new Lifetime reality show Girlfriend Intervention—I can only marvel at how it somehow exists. The premise of the show is that four fashionable black women intervene to make over the fashion and attitude of a white woman. The show’s trailer announces that “inside every white girl is a strong black woman waiting to bust out” and makes several generalizations about what “all black women” are like.

I definitely am not the only one who thinks the show feels off-base. Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams and comedian (and Bitch contributor) Phoebe Robinson hit the streets of Manhattan to make a video spoofing Girlfriend Intervention. The pair just premiered the video last night at their stand-up night in New York. Check it out:

I was at Blaria on Tuesday

I was at Blaria on Tuesday night too :-) their video was amazing! Also, Janeane Garofalo pretty much made my life by turning a serious discussion of Roman history into stand up somehow. I can say, I'm not sorry I've never seen the original show this was based on though... It would probably make my soul just leak out of my eyeballs.
