Jamara  Mychelle Wakefield is poet, playwright and author.

Her work is cross genre combining music, poetry, theater, music and improvisation to create public performance. Her previous music and poetry albums include Love Words Soft Spoken, SHE and Children of the Night.

She is a recipient of a MFA in Creative Writing from The Pratt Institute. She holds a Master of Arts degree from New York University’s Tisch School for the Performing Arts  in Performance Studies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The New School for Public Engagement. She is the 2017 Leslie Scalapino Award for Innovative Women in Writers finalist for her play Rosie/ The Great Dismal Swamp, which examines the history and music of the Convict Lease Era through a feminist and supernatural lens.
