Born in Chicago and raised in the East Bay Area, Kirby is an LA-based writer/director with a knack for dialogue and somehow relating everything back to a Disney movie. She owes her love of writing to the Junie B. Jones books, her first script to “High School Musical,” and her true beginnings to the lack of roles available to her as a black teen who didn’t want to just be somebody’s girlfriend. Her writing’s driven by a need for more in terms of dynamic, unapologetic storytelling for black girls, women of color, and people of the LGBTQ+ community. You can find her intensely speculating and dissecting TV on all forms of social media (@kirbysaid).
