Shantel Gabrieal Buggs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Florida State University and affiliated faculty in the Program for African American Studies. Her research interests center on how race and ethnicity, gender, and sexuality shape the ways that people build and negotiate family, and pursue and maintain sexual and romantic intimate relationships. In particular, her research focuses on multiracial populations and interracial couplings as people move through life course processes like dating, cohabitation, marriage, and parenthood.

In addition to studying multiracial people and their families, Dr. Buggs also writes about the representation of race, gender, and sexuality in popular culture.
